13. Depression
Several studies show that people with a history of depression have an increased risk of developing dementia, and depressive symptoms are also associated with cognitive decline. But reports say it’s unclear whether depression itself increases the risk or if it’s a warning sign of changes in the brain that could be associated with dementia.
