Spurs management teach rest of world about creation of community

NEW YORK: The Tottenham Hotspur football club management is showing the rest of the world the importance of a brand in creating a new community.

A major Tottenham White Hart Lane redevelopment plan has been approved.

A design masterplan framework for the High Road West area, setting out expansive public spaces, 1,200 homes, and revamped transport links, was agreed by Haringey Council’s cabinet last week.

In consultation on the proposals, the council says nearly 85% of residents living on the Love Lane Estate – and 69% of everyone who responded – backed plans for modern homes with a mix of family-sized houses with gardens and maisonettes with private courtyards.

More than three quarters of people who responded backed a revamped White Hart Lane Station, with added support for plans for new business space, access to long-term employment opportunities and a major new public square.

The 5,000sqm square will see an amphitheater for community events and a new library and enterprise center, surrounded by cafés, bars and restaurants developed.

All secure council tenants on the Love Lane Estate will be guaranteed a home at a social rent in the new development, with the council aiming to phase the work so residents only have to make one move – with their neighbors – into their new home.

The approved public square and amphitheater will sit opposite Spurs’ new stadium and will become “the heart of north Tottenham’s community life”…
