Seniors housing building market in danger of overheating

CHICAGO: The rate of construction for assisted living continues to climb, spurring industry members to discuss the possibility of oversupply in some areas.

The rate of construction for assisted living properties climbed during the past two years past 4%, then 5%, and neared 6% of the existing inventory.

But the real danger is from product pushback from the boomer generation, the oldest of whom is now 70. If boomers refuse to countenance assisted living, the window of growth is very narrow…
