OECD report on new policy options for housing elderly in urban environment

BALTIMORE: The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has released a report on the housing challenges being faced by the elderly living in urban environments.

The report looks at how various cities are coping with the challenge.

5. In Brno, where 19 percent of residents are 65 or older, a wave of crime directed at seniors has led city police to train some as “crime prevention assistants.” The goal is community policing for seniors, by seniors. It’s also encouraging the elderly to move into shared apartments, with separate bedrooms but common kitchens or bathrooms.
