Nursing home sector deludes itself over staff education standards

CHICAGO: The nursing home sector is fixated on delivering only mandated training and is failing to provide continuous education, which would lift individual carer confidence, brand enhancement, and engender greater respect from residents families.

The national standards of training address bread and butter issues of fire safety, food hygiene and safe environments.

But the art of being a good carer is underpinned by continuously updated knowledge. Despite its low-cost availability, the lack of vision by middle management is another factor helping consign the nursing home sector to gradual irrelevance…
