Empty nest syndrome in rapid eclipse

NEW YORK: Empty nest syndrome – the phenomenon felt by parents whose children have finally left the family home – is becoming less common.

It is being supplanted by the rise of the boomerang child. Offspring are leaving much later, and often returning.

The factors driving change include the cost of housing and education, sexual tolerance, divorce, growth of grandchild direct parenting, treasured memory syndrome, community links, abandonment of retirement…

This trend will be covered in detail in the Over 50s Housing Trends Seminar.
