Cancer drug could be the key to curing the effects of Alzheimer’s

NEW HAVEN: A cancer drug shelved after disappointing results has stunned scientists by apparently reversing the effects of Alzheimer’s disease.

The drug known as AZD05030 could be soon tested on humans.

British pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca had been developing the drug, known as AZD05030, to tackle a range of tumors but dropped it after it proved ineffective.

Now scientists have made the startling discovery that it can restore memory loss in mice given Alzheimer’s.

They plan to test the drug immediately on humans, raising hopes of finding a cure for the debilitating disease.

The drug works by blocking a process that breaks the nerve connections used to store memories in the brain…
