SAN DIEGO: The owner of an abandoned city building said his company will be ready to begin renovation of a former hotel into The Parsonian, a 35-unit apartment complex for seniors, soon after the approval of the requisite consents.

Much of the first floor, including the former restaurant area, will be transformed into five apartments, but the developer plans to keep the lobby and staircase leading from the first to the second floor intact for historical purposes.

A city administrator said there has not been much interest in the building since a bank sued the former owner, who had been using the building as apartments, and it was closed and placed into receivership. Because of that, she said the city is grateful that the seniors plan has been advanced.
