Why memory loss is much faster in men

BOSTON: It’s official, say scientists, men really do have worse memories than women.

A new study shows memory loss is a natural part of aging which doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll succumb to Alzheimer’s.

Declining memory is common to everyone, but it affects men earlier in life – most notably from their 40s.

A study has found while memory loss is a natural effect of aging in both sexes, men tend to be affected earlier than women.

The volume of the hippocampus in men’s brains was also lower than in women’s, especially after age 60.

The study, in common with previous findings, showed men tended to have lower scores than women on verbal mental tests even as teenagers.

The advantage appears to hold until women go through the menopause in their 50s…
