Volunteers sought for early onset dementia research study

volunteerSWANSEA: Informal carers in Carmarthenshire are being called upon to take part in a study surrounding young onset dementia.

Gordon Jones from the Centre for Innovative Aging at Swansea University is looking for informal carers, such as family and friends, of people with young onset dementia who would like to share their experiences of caring.

Mr Jones said: “There are over 800 people aged 64 or under who have a diagnosis of dementia. The group of people with dementia are referred to as having young onset dementia or YOD.

“Very limited research has been undertaken in Wales to inform the provision of services for people with YOD and little is known about the experiences of informal carers of people with young onset dementia.

“The intention and focus of this study is to contribute to a better understanding of the needs of informal carers of people with young onset dementia in rural areas of Wales compared to those living in urban areas”…
