Trial outcome to shape new consent standards

SAN DIEGO: A husband in his seventies is on trial for sexual abuse and could face up to 10 years in jail for having sexual intercourse with his wife, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.

A jury will have to decide whether the wife, who died last year, was mentally capable of consenting to sex with her husband, in a case being closely watched by doctors and dementia charities.
