Social housing more costly than apartments

NEW YORK: It could be much cheaper to buy homeless seniors their own apartment than provide social housing, based on the cost of recent “supportive housing” projects in the city, all being built to LEED Gold standards.

The cost of creating these latest units for “people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness” pencils out to a higher price per apartment, when annual subsidies for 10 years are factored in.
