Service will help reduce pressure on hospitals and skilled nursing homes

LAS VEGAS: A new service has been launched for a six month trial period with the aim of reducing the strain on hospitals and skilled nursing homes.

The ‘Stepping Stones’ service provides individuals with a one bedroom supported flat, adapted to their needs and is available for two to four weeks on average, depending on the level of support required. Social workers will make a direct referral to enable people to access the service.

A home care group will provide housing related support, well-being checks and practical support with domestic duties. The flat is also fitted with an emergency lifeline which is operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The aim is to provide supported accommodation for people who no longer need specialist medical care but cannot return home in the short-term due to a change in their housing needs. It is also accessible to those requiring suitable accommodation to prevent unnecessary admissions to hospital or skilled nursing homes…
