Seniors sharing group homes on the increase

SAN FRANCISCO: Two care companies are considering entering the group home market segment as an alternative to the retirement community sector.

Group homes are akin to student flats for seniors. Each home has a ‘pod mother’. Caregivers come and go on a needs basis.

Each community member has their own bedroom and all other facilities are shared.

The managing agency’s caregivers provide round-the-clock support for residents. A geriatric doctor monitors the care, and a registered nurse regularly visits the home…
