NEW YORK: The six hundred and tenth entry for the seniors housing Global Awards for 2015 has been received.
At least 10 apartments are in preparation to house people displaced by the closure of three hotels that city officials said had poor living conditions and were the setting for illegal activities.
Lorain County Habitat for Humanity had staff and volunteers working July 18 and 19 to renovate seven units at 5003 Oberlin Ave. to become new residences for people, possibly as early as July 20.
The improved units are meant to house people who will lose their residences due to the closures of the Parkview and Shoreway motels, which were ordered to be vacated by July 18, and Erieview Motel, which was ordered to be vacated by July 21.
The rulings on the hotels were ordered by the city’s Demolition Board of Appeals, which convened in June 2015 to consider the living conditions at the motels. In April city officials used search warrants to enter the four hotels and document the conditions there…
