Seniors housing developers compete for Global Award

NEW YORK: The five hundred and eighty-fifth entry for the seniors housing Global Awards for 2015 has been received.

Construction could begin as soon as this autumn on a $6.2 million renovation project at The Village of Hillside senior living community and when it does residents will have three housing options while they are displaced – move in with family or friends, share another rental with other residents or stay at the Birchwood Inn.

The Village of Hillside renewal project will replace the existing units with 32 affordable senior apartments on two stories that are more easily accessible than the current configuration, which lacks elevators and presents other challenges for less mobile residents. The original 24 apartments were built in 1978.

The project will also include a new 2,000-square-foot Friendship Center, allowing for expanded programs and meal offerings.
