NEW YORK: The three hundred and forty-seventh entry for the seniors housing Global Awards for 2015 has been received.
The West End condo project has become a lightning rod for controversy. One entrance is for social housing, the other for the market-priced condos. They will also have separate amenities, so the people who can afford Vancouver’s costly condos don’t need to mingle with the down-belows.
As it turns out, not everyone’s a fan of socioeconomic segregation. The practice has already been brought to the public’s attention in New York and Seattle, both of which are considering banning the so-called poor doors.
The project has been rejected from award consideraton.
