Allan had semi-retired years before, but she quickly found having him around the house very irritating. She is part of a phenomenon of women returning to work after retirement.
Cheryl Young, 64, always knew she would find retirement tedious, but found that going back to work gave her a new lease of life.
One recent study suggested that women actually suffer higher stress levels after retirement – particularly if their husbands are retired as well, a condition known as Retired Husband Syndrome.
