Retirement community developers says retirees demand high speed Internet

DALLAS: A new generation of retirees and their families are actively seeking communities fitted with fast, secure wireless networks that offer TV, Internet and telephone at competitive prices. Erickson Living is making significant investments to install new fiber-optic technology in its residential campuses in response to increased demands for improved Internet, cable TV, telephone and cellular services.

In April 2012, a research center found for the first time that more than half of older adults (defined as those aged 65 and older) were Internet users. A year later, 59 per cent of seniors reported that they went online — a six per cent increase in the course of a year. Additionally, 77 per cent of older adults reported that they had a cell phone — up from 69 per cent since April 2012.
