Report claims second house purchase is lifelong home

BOSTON: Homeowners taking their second step on the property ladder are now jumping straight into detached family homes instead of smaller properties, a study has found.

Punishing rates of stamp duty and high moving costs mean more people buy their ‘for ever’ home second time around – reducing the total number of times they move during their lifetime.

A survey by a bank found those in their first home are increasingly looking to buy large four-bedroom detached houses, cutting out the middle stage on the property ladder…
