Red wine and chocolate ‘can slow dementia’

chocolateCHICAGO: A compound found in some red wines and dark chocolate could be used to help to slow the onset of dementia, research has suggested.

The largest long term clinical study of resveratrol, in 119 people with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease, found that a purified form of the compound stabilised the fall of a biomarker found in people who suffer from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Resveratrol occurs naturally in red grapes, raspberries, dark chocolate and some red wines.
