Rate of cognitive decline increases for years after stroke

NEW YORK: Cognitive decline is significantly faster in the 6 years after stroke than it was before it, and is persistent rather than simply an acute problem, researchers have found.

In the wake of the study experts have called for doctors to be alert to the possibility of silent stroke, and also for cognitive screening to help guide patient care.
