Push for smaller, more intimate skilled nursing homes

CHICAGO: There is an increasing call for the reversal of the trend to mega skilled nursing homes.

120 beds leads to caged hen care say the critics of ‘big is best’.

The age of the building is immaterial. What matters is that 28 beds or less allows for a better run, high care delivery, a better chance that all staff live in the same locale, and the creation of an enhanced esprit de corps.

The sense of belonging is heightened and greater informality possible in more intimate spaces…
