CHICAGO: The days of pick-your-own strawberries and vegetables may be coming to an end.
The farm, a popular destination for almost 30 years, is to be converted into apartments, townhomes, shops and a senior-living facility under a proposal before planners.
The plan calls for the farm to be redeveloped in two parts:
• 36 acres on the north and west part of the site would be devoted to 30 apartment and townhome buildings, for a total of 300 rental units.
• 11 acres on the south side would be used for a 250-bed assisted-living center. The developer said he is in preliminary discussions with assisted-living operators but has not yet reached an agreement.
