Person-centred care impossible in formalised nursing institutions

ATLANTA: As meritorious as the various resident-centered care programs in skilled nursing home environments may be, the very location militates against the finest possible delivery standard.

Institutional surroundings, OHS regulations, strict operational rules, the parade of staff, primitive medical design, and limited training all militate against delivery of the ‘new care’.

Skilled nursing homes have to realize that they are part of the problem and that if ‘genuine person-centered care’ is to be attainable, skilled nursing homes have to be put on by-pass…
