People don’t just need social housing they need green spaces

WASHINGTON D.C.: Those living in disadvantaged areas have fewer good quality parks near to where they live, yet are most in need of green space to improve their wellbeing.

The amount and quality of public green space is disproportionately weighted in favor of the wealthy. The last meaningful research on the subject provided clear evidence that people living in more disadvantaged areas or from more marginalized communities had fewer good quality parks and gardens near to where they live and used them less often than people living in more affluent areas.

One way to combat this is to make the link between social housing and social space as compelling as the emotional pull of private homes and gardens…
