LOS ANGELES: The package holiday boom of the last 50 years has been blamed for a huge rise in the deadliest form of skin cancer.
Around 5,700 seniors are diagnosed every year compared with just 600 in the 1970s – a time when sunshine holidays stopped becoming a treat only for a privileged few.
New research shows men aged over 65 are 10 times more likely to contract malignant melanoma than their parents generation. Women over 65 are five times more at risk.
