LOS ANGELES: Universities are slowly awaking to the realization that seniors may become a new profit center.
Tertiary education institutions have gone through the government financed youth only cycle; sprinted through the ‘foreign’ student opportunity and only now are starting to focus on seniors as a cash resource.
The link between seniors and distance learning is tenuous. The over 60s want ‘on campus’, fully immersed learning, multi-generational contact and to live in student housing that is bigger than a shoebox.
Universities, for all their professed intelligence, have been remarkably slow on the opportunity uptake… or perhaps it’s a haughty disdain…
