New minimum room sizes risk social housing supply

DETROIT: A plan to enforce minimum room sizes across the city risks the supply of much-needed affordable housing, it is claimed.

A rule is being considered whereby one-bed accommodation would be no smaller than 398sqft.

But a local developer claims such a move has already had a direct impact on the provision of the affordable housing he is preparing.

He said he experienced “a lot of opposition” from the council to plans for 24 units – 15 on the open market and nine affordable…
