SEATTLE: The pioneering method of home ownership was first launched in 2010 and allows renters to gain equity in their homes through fixed-rent payments.

Monthly payments are reviewed every five years, and the tenant owns the property after 30 years.

The project can be an escape hatch for those facing a lifetime as a landlord’s cash cow, but it does so at a cost.
