Just how small should affordable seniors housing flats be?

NEW YORK: A call has been made to impose a minimum size on affordable homes after 19 units were approved.

The planning authority has given the go ahead but expressed concern about 35 metre square flats – described in an officer’s report as “very small”.

Church and charities are calling for the adoption of a “minimum standard for size”.

The report writer said: “I don’t like the idea that if you don’t have a significant salary you’re going to be cramped into a small property.

“I don’t think we should consider that acceptable and should put a marker down…”
