Innovative plan to have students and elderly share building

BALTIMORE: Education officials are looking at dealing with declining enrollments and rising education costs by combining classes and elderly assisted living under one roof.

The innovative move could prevent the need to shut down some schools.

The proposal would have the school hand over ownership of the building in exchange for part of the structure to be used to educate children aged 4 to 11.

The remaining portion of the building would be converted into assisted living space for elderly residents of the area.
