LOS ANGELES: A sky park 10m above ground will be built across Collins St under a plan by property giant Lend Lease.
Open to the public and businesses, the space will be part of a $1.9 billion redevelopment consisting of seven commercial and residential towers in an area that stretches between Collins and Flinders streets, near Spencer St.
A new laneway will also be created connecting Collins St by Flinders St as part of the Melbourne Quarter project.
A Melbourne City Council report flags some concerns about the sky garden, including how plants will flourish in limited soil depth.
But the document also highlights that green space is needed in the area.
“The sky garden provides a unique opportunity to improve the urban design of the Docklands. Access to an additional open space in this area can only enhance the experience of residents and workers and improve their choice of places to socialise and relax,” the report stated.
“The proposed sky park is identified as being accessible to the commercial building occupants and also to the public during normal business hours”…
