CSF biomarker may predict early AD progression

ST LOUIS: Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) levels of a certain brain protein may be a helpful predictor of progression to Alzheimer’s disease, researchers found.

In a single-centre, case-control trial, CSF levels of VILIP-1 predicted rates of whole-brain and regional atrophy similarly to tau and p-tau181.

The biomarker may provide a useful surrogate for neurodegeneration in early symptomatic and preclinical Alzheimer’s disease.
