SAN FRANCISCO: The decision by a New Zealand court that it is a breach of human rights to enforce an arbitrary retirement age, will create a precedent across the world.
The flow on from the legal ruling will add significantly to the number of post 60 year olds who choose to work for life.
Already 23 per cent of over 60s in developed countries have opted for the Work for Life route.
This precedent will open the floodgates, and trigger a significant reassessment of previous studies which concluded that the costs of boomer retirement would be a crushing impost on the tax base.
If the boomer generation stays in the work force and continues to contribute to taxation revenues, the generation may end up being a net contributor rather than being costed as a revenue drain.
This legal decision will turn out to be the most revolutionary precedent in the economics of the 21st century…
