Can developers be forced to provide affordable seniors housing

CHICAGO: A new court challenge is being prepared by advocates of low-cost housing. The advocates want enshrined the authority of cities and counties to enact laws requiring builders to include a certain number of affordable seniors units in each new development.

The building industry has argued that such ordinances amount to a government confiscation of property and can be justified only if a particular development would cause a shortage of affordable housing.
