Age care compounds becoming soft crime targets

LAS VEGAS: Retirement communities and skilled nursing homes imply a level of elevated safety in their commercial pitch to prospective customers. But evidence is mounting that age-apartheid compounds are increasingly becoming soft crime targets and the care sector is trashing its reputation by doing nothing to effectively counter the growing threat:

7. The family of a disabled man is suing a retirement home, alleging staff did nothing to stop a sexual assault by another resident, then conspired to keep it quiet.

A document filed in Court says the 75-year-old man moved into the Seniors Village last spring after a heart condition left him incapable of caring for himself.

The family alleges that an employee left him alone in a room with another resident and returned to see him being scratched, hit and sexually assaulted.

It says the employee didn’t stop the attack…
