But evidence is mounting that age-apartheid compounds are increasingly becoming soft crime targets and the care sector is trashing its reputation by doing nothing to effectively counter the growing threat:

250. A skilled nursing home manager tricked an elderly man into selling his new television to her for a pittance.

Two months later she offered to buy his car which he was unable to drive following major heart surgery, but never paid the promised money.

She has been convicted on two counts of fraud by false representation.
