Integrated retirement community design starting to mimic institutionalism

SAN FRANCISCO: The trend to building 3 to 6 floor retirement community structures, is taking the industry rapidly into institutionalism.

Whilst the trend has short term advantages (“the uncomplaining veteran generation can be shoe-horned into micro apartments”), the same building will be unsaleable to a boomer.

The risk to the developer/manager is that the shelf life of the building could be as little as 8-10 years…
