Nonprofit RurAL CAP is planning to expand its Safe Harbor project for low-income seniors housing.
The multifamily housing unit will produce more energy than it consumes and use on-site water and sewer reclamation systems.
RurAL CAP runs a housing program called Safe Harbor, providing housing to residents with very low incomes. The new ultra energy-efficient units are set to be built next door to an existing 50-unit. Managers there say that without the housing they provide to people who are at least 50 percent below the median income level, most of the families would be homeless.
