Care operators doing little to protect or defend ‘safe haven’ image

DETROIT: The targeting of a seniors club within a retirement community, and the armed intrusion at a second over 50s community, provides on-going support for the argument that age-apartheid compounds are increasingly being seen as ‘soft targets’ by criminal gangs.

Retirement community groups put great store on their ‘safe haven status’, yet do little or nothing to defend their ‘implied’ superior security position.

One legal claim will undo villages and bring a mountain of new costs upon their balance sheets…
