Department figures on population percentage needing care widely inaccurate

WASHINGTON D.C.: The claim by the US Department of Health and Human Services that nearly 70 percent of 65 year-olds will eventually need some form of long-term care is widely inaccurate and alarmist.

The further claim that 20 per cent will need it for more than five years, is simply at best a ‘guess’.

The problem is the misuse of statistics for short term economic and political gain.
