isolatedMAPPERLEY: A mum-of-five has spent the past 35 years looking after the elderly – after she opened her home to isolated people in her local community.

Mary Carter merged two houses in Haywood Road, Mapperley, together in 1970 to create a giant six-bedroomed property with two living rooms, two kitchens and three bathrooms.

The 70-year-old was working as a full-time nurse at Mapperley Hospital when she enrolled to become an at-home carer with Nottinghamshire County Council’s Shared Lives Scheme in 11 years later in 1981…
