NEW YORK: Fifty years since first going to university, Daphne Hazelgrove will take the leap into academia again.
The 67-year-old retired primary school teacher’s friend, Nicky Columbus, 57, was interested in going back “to keep brain cells active”, and she thought: “Oh well, why not?”
Hazelgrove studied at university after school, then returned as a mature student 20 years ago to do postgraduate studies in sociology then linguistics.
The university is trying to attract mature students back to its campus, through its Lifelong Learning initiative…
