DALLAS: There’s a lot of imagery around the “tropical home”.
But there’s a lot of building science behind it, too. Of course this shouldn’t be surprising, as dwellings are about shelter, and shelter is all about a functional response to climate – as well as looking after ourselves and our belongings.
So, rather than mere decoration, one would hope that the tropical imagery wrapping Darwin’s houses is a result of shelter that’s really working for us. Sadly, too often, on inspection of our newer suburbs with their “style covenants”, this isn’t the case…..
