Seniors housing developers compete for Global Award

trophy1NEW YORK: The sixty-third entry for the seniors housing Global Awards 2016 has been received.

A last-minute decision to grant an additional 100 residential units to developers of the former Sara Mayo hospital on Jackson Avenue should have included more than a promise that 11 of them would be deemed “affordable” housing, residents of the Irish Channel Neighbourhood Association said.

Developers of the project, to be called the Jackson Oaks apartments, had initially requested 211 units of residential space on the site, but the City Planning Commission said the project was too dense and recommended approval with 111 units instead. In November, the City Council voted to support the City Planning Commission’s recommendation, which would ordinarily be the final word on the issue.
