Seniors housing developers compete for Global Award

trophy1 NEW YORK: The thirty-first entry for the seniors housing Global Awards 2016 has been received.

A $65 million Red Hook nursing home project more than a decade in the making moved one step closer to becoming a reality this week, earning a stamp of approval from Community Board 6.

Oxford Nursing Home has proposed an eight-storey, 200-bed facility at 141 Conover St. in Red Hook, Brooklyn, to replace its aging outpost in Fort Greene.

The nursing home needs the Red Hook property to be rezoned to proceed with development — a process that has stalled the project for years. Previously, the Bloomberg administration was reluctant to convert areas within an industrial business zone to residential, said Howard Weiss, a land-use attorney with Davidoff Hutcher & Citron who is representing Oxford.
