Seniors housing developers compete for Global Award

trophyNEW YORK: The six hundred and seventy-eighth entry for the seniors housing Global Awards for 2015 has been received.

The Portland City Council has given a nonprofit housing developer a 22-year tax break worth more than $700,000 to support the construction of a four-storey affordable housing complex in the prestigious West End neighbourhood.

The project, which will provide 37 units of new housing at 17 Carleton St. for people with limited incomes, has drawn opposition from some neighbours over the loss of parking and whether affordable housing fits well in the historic neighbourhood.
