NEW YORK: The one hundred and seventy-second entry for the seniors housing Global Awards 2016 has been received.
According to a staff report received by council, the units are the first of their kind for the area, secured under the affordable housing policies approved in the West End Community Plan. Adopted in 2013, the plan sought to maintain and enhance existing affordability by requiring the replacement of 27 rental units as social housing.
Green Party councillor Adrianne Carr questioned what number of units will be available at what rates.
Dan Garrison, the city’s housing planner, said staff will draft a proposal and work with non-profit organizations to identify sources of funds and provincial involvement to allow for as many below-market units as possible
“Until we’ve identified the project budget to make sure that it’s going to be sustainable, it’s tough to tell you exactly how many units will be rented at exactly what rate,” he said.
