Math and reading exercises slow progress of dementia

psychology-role-title-image_tcm7-189116150BOSTON: The progress of dementia could be slowed by patients doing simple math and reading exercises every day, with the added benefit of saving money from the public purse, a yearlong study has found.

A joint research team from private education provider Kumon Institute of Education Co. and Keio University revealed the outcome of its pilot project on Sept. 12.

It concluded that the non-pharmaceutical intervention “gakushu ryoho,” or learning therapy, is effective for dementia patients, and is planning a more detailed study in the future.
